Matt's legacy lives on at Nottingham University

January 10, 2017

To mark Matt's 25th birthday today, we would like to share some more news about his legacy is inspiring others. Last year the University of Nottingham held the first competition for the Matt Carapiet Award for Humanitarian Architecture.

The first winner was Jessie St Clair for her entry entitled ‘Alzheimer’s Respite’. The project dealt with issues faced by people suffering with the age-related illness of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and presented ways of helping not only the patient but also their family and the carers, in a well-considered, holistic environment.

All five judges – comprising Matt’s uni friends and his father Greg – were unanimous in their choice, and were particularly impressed with the good use of freehand drawings and paintings in the entry.

The award was presented by Greg and his sister Denise (award sponsor) at the University of Nottingham on 16th June, 2016. Jessie won £300, a certificate and the offer to be a judge for this year’s competition. Entries for the 2017 award will be submitted by University of Nottingham students by early June.
